My surgery was on Thursday, February 7th, 2019. The Doctor performs a single mastectomy of my left breast with 2/3 of the Lymph Nodes removed. According to the Surgeon, the surgery was a success.
The surgery took about 4 1/2 hours and the complete tumor along with the Lymph Nodes was sent to pathology for further testing and to get more details of cancer. The final results of the pathology will be discussed in my next post surgery appointment on February 20th.
This appointment the Doctor will discuss the pathology report and remove the drains which are tubings that are under the skin that drains out impurities from the surgery until my surgical area is healed. I am looking forward to removing these tubings because they are so uncomfortable.
Doing the surgery was another step of my journey to getting better and being a survivor of this terrible disease. At first, I did not want to move forward with the surgery because I did not want to live with only one breast.
Then I spoke with other women who had to make that same choice and survived. I realized it would be a sacrifice worth doing because I still have a lot to live for…I have to live for my children and for myself. My journey continues after my next post-surgical appointment.
